Argentina's Citizenship by Investment Program: What You Need to Know
Argentina has joined the growing list of countries offering citizenship or residence through investment. In early 2025, the Milei administration enacted Presidential Decree 524/2025, establishing a formal Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program.
The legal framework
The decree creates the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs, a decentralized body within the Ministry of Economy. This agency will oversee applications and coordinate due diligence across seven government institutions, including the State Intelligence Secretariat and the Financial Information Unit.
Why it matters
For investors, the program offers a path to Argentine citizenship—and with it, a passport that provides access to 170+ countries, potential US visa-free travel (pending Visa Waiver Program approval), and the right to live, work, and invest in one of South America’s largest economies.
Investment thresholds and qualifying sectors are still being defined. Those who register their interest now will be best positioned when the program opens for applications.
